The Central African Republic (CAR) is a country blessed with plenty of rainfall, fertile soils, and abundant natural resources, yet it remains one of the least developed countries in the world. Much of the persistent poverty has to do with internal conflict, instability, and lack of adequate education. This results in poor infrastructure, insufficient health care, and limited access to agricultural assistance. Most of the population in the region of Mambere-Kadei in the southwest corner of CAR are subsistence farmers, primarily engaged in growing cassava, peanuts, and a variety of other green leafy vegetables.
